About the Video series: Matt Taibbi on how Goldman Sachs has engineered every major market manipulation since the Great Depression. Link to Matt Taibbi’s “The Great American Bubble Machine” in Rolling Stone Issue 1082-83

Matt Taibbi takes on “the Wall Street Bubble Mafia” — investment bank Goldman Sachs. The piece has generated controversy, with Goldman Sachs firing back that Taibbi’s piece is “an hysterical compilation of conspiracy theories” and a spokesman adding, “We reject the assertion that we are inflators of bubbles and profiteers in busts, and we are painfully conscious of the importance in being a force for good.” Taibbi shot back: “Goldman has its alumni pushing its views from the pulpit of the U.S. Treasury, the NYSE, the World Bank, and numerous other important posts; it also has former players fronting major TV shows. They have the ear of the president if they want it.” Here, now, are excerpts from Matt Taibbi’s piece and video of Taibbi exploring the key issues.

The insanity we call Cheney gets more and more bizarre with each passing revelation.

According to a story in Friday’s New York Times,Vice-President Cheney advocated in 2002 for the Bush administration to send military troops to Buffalo to arrest the so-called Lackawanna Six as enemy combatants.

This would have violated both Fourth Amendment guarantees against search and seizure without probable cause and the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878, which makes it illegal to use the military for law enforcement.

Despite those prohibitions, Cheney argued that the president did have the power to use the military on US soil, citing an October 23, 2001 Justice Department memorandum co-authored by John Yoo which claimed that presidential power extended to the domestic use of the military as long as it served a national security purpose.

The Bush Administration’s application and usage of the term “enemy combatants” could have been used against anyone who did not agree with their policies. The fact the Cheney was considering using Yoo’s now defunked legal arguments to violate the Posse Comitatus Act should scare the bejesus out of everyone of us.

However on a broader note; these are the very issues that need to be addressed via an  investigation and if need be prosecutions. If we do not, what will stop the next power hungry,  paranoid megalomaniac from picking up where Bush and Cheney left off?
Just consider, these very actions have been argued by members of the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) Cheney’s beloved think-tank, many times in their position papers. Even more frightening is most of PNAC’s members are prominent figures within the the GOP, John McCain and Jeb Bush are just two examples.

This is a truly unbelievable story.

Rosenbaum was arrested in a sweeping federal case that began as an investigation into money laundering and trafficking in kidneys and fake designer bags. It mushroomed into a political corruption probe, culminating in the arrests this week of 44 people, including three New Jersey mayors, various other officials, and five rabbis. The politicians and rabbis were not accused of involvement in the organ trafficking.

Levy Izhak Rosenbaum of Brooklyn called himself a “matchmaker,” but his business wasn’t romance. Instead, authorities say, he brokered the sale of black-market kidneys, buying organs from vulnerable people from Israel for $10,000 and selling them to desperate patients in the U.S. for as much as $160,000.

The alleged decade-long scheme, exposed this week by an FBI sting, rocked the nation’s transplant industry. If true, it would be the first documented case of organ trafficking in the U.S., transplant experts said Friday.

This is telling, Five Rabbis, 3 mayors various other officials were involved.
