For those who are interested in the NEIDL legal process in Boston and the Blue Ribbon Panel established by the NIH, there is a website where you can follow the panels findings and meeting minutes. Some background if you are not familiar with the issue. On March 6, 2008, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced a blue ribbon panel to examine and recommend additional actions in a comprehensive plan to address the public’s safety concerns regarding a national biocontainment research laboratory (NEIDL) now under construction at Boston University Medical Center. According to their website the panel was established because;

“The Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs asked the National Research Council (NRC) to analyze the draft NIH supplementary risk assessments report because the state agency viewed it as potentially relevant to its own decision-making process. The committee assembled by the NRC issued a report in November 2007 that was critical of the NIH draft supplementary report”.

I am sure North Carolina will have it’s own fight ahead if it is choosen for the NBAF, but thats another chapter in this biocontainment saga.
