As a native Texan who grew up on the gulf coast, and I would like to appeal to all of the gulf coast red state residents who’ve had their lives destroyed by the BP oil spill. You elected the “Representatives Of The People” who are representing big oil instead of you, the “People” they were elected to represent. By defination, a representative of the people is one or more persons chosen by you, the people to speak and act on your behalf, and do your bidding. From blocking extended unemployment benefits, to congressman Joe Barton apologizing to BP, because president Obama forced BP to cough up $20 million dollars to compensate for your losses due to their reclessness (it’s not hard to see who represents who), to BP ’s refusal to utilize every resourse in cleaning up the spill, to Haley Barbour claiming “The coast is clear, ” on Fox News, and “The truth is we’ve had virtually no oil.”, to Sharron Angle believing you are spoiled for expecting a check from BP or the government instead of taking some minimum wage hamburger flipping job with a 16 year old boss, to insulting our intelligence by trying to convence us all that the Obama administration is somehow more apocalyptic than the horrable mess resulting from the greedy policies of their previous oil rich administration, and putting safty on the back burner for the sake of obsene profits, the republicans are NOT representing you. I hear so many conservative yo yos whining about “Big Government”. when their tiny little minds can’t grasp that this country is owned by big oil. That’s as “Big Government” as “Big Government” gets! The fact that the republicans are repersenting not only big oil, but big insurence, big pharmaceutical, and “To Big To Fail” banks instead of you, means one of two things. Either they are out of touch with the working class people of America ( the backbone of our nation), or they just don’t care. Both are unacceptable. They live in nice homes that you are paying for, but don’t care if you lose yours. They have exellent healthcare benefits that you are paying for, but feel your family does not deserve the same. You pay their bloated and absurd salaries, but your jobs mean nothing to them. Why should they care about your jobs and livelihoods, when they know your vote will secure theirs? This is not rocket science people. We can’t put the fox back in charge of the hen house. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting you support the democrats. Who you vote for is your own business, but from the Libritarian Party, to the Green Party, to the Labor Party, etc, etc, there are other candidates to choose from, and send your message to the republicans that you will no longer be played for a fool by them (or will you?), and they should start cleaning out their offices. We cannot afford to put the republicans in power in November. They are counter productive enough as the minority. Think about your homes, jobs, and families. Putting the republicans back in power could result in a virtual pardon for BP, no monitary compensation for your losses or suffering, and higher prices at the pump.
I remember this incident & the news media tried to blame TX Gov. Bill Clements (Rep.) because he founded SEDCO in 1947. The good news IMHO is that the GOM & all the seas’ living creatures didn’t expire in 1979. This current oil spill is a tragedy, but everyone should just take a breath & understand it’s NOT the end of the world.
Here’s some facts Rachel Maddow doesn’t point out. Oil & gas producing companies are in business to make money for stockholders. So if you are investing in a mutual fund, it is probably buying shares in 1 or more oil & gas companies’ stocks & you want your portfolio to grow. Therefore, you are profiting with these evil companies that are “making themselves the most profitable industry the universe has ever seen & I’m not exaggerating”.
Also, these oil & gas companies don’t develop technologies for things that happen every 31 years unless they are required to by federal regulations. Our federal government has dropped the ball again & failed to protect our natural resources while collecting trillions of dollars from the sale of GOM leases from the industry currently being made into some evil empire.
